Your Healthcare has raised over £8000 for its chosen charity of 2016/17, the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).
The grand total of £8134.35 was gratefully received by the MNDA at a special cheque presentation event on 21 April 2017 with a formal handover to our new charity of 2017/18, Kingston Churches Action on Homelessness (KCAH).
Every year Your Healthcare staff get the opportunity to nominate and vote for their favourite charities. MNDA won last year’s vote as one of our nurses Annie Oxby, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease at the end of 2015. Annie battled against the disease but sadly passed away in 2016.
To raise money for MNDA, Your Healthcare staff took part in dragon boat racing in Kingston, partied at a barn dance, held a family fun day, had a sponsored male leg wax and showed their prowess in a couple of quizzes.
Lesley Elsdon, chief fundraiser at Your Healthcare said: “It was a privilege to raise money for the MNDA in honour of Annie’s memory and we hope that the money raised will improve the quality of life of others living with the disease as well as funding research.
“Staff had great fun putting on the events and were very generous in both their support and donating their money.”
MNDA Branch Chairman, Simon Edmands, said he was grateful to everyone involved in raising such a fantastic amount for the Association, adding: “It was especially poignant, of course, to have Annie’s husband, Gerry, there and I know everyone present really appreciated it.”
KCAH ‘s Matt Hatton, Operational Director said: “We are humbled and honoured that Your Healthcare has chosen us as their next charity of the year and any money raised will go towards improving the lives of homeless people living in the borough of Kingston.”

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a rapidly progressive terminal illness which kills, on average, six people every day within the UK. It can leave people unable to walk, talk or even feed themselves, whilst their mind and senses invariably remain unaffected. Average life expectancy from diagnosis is just fourteen months and, as yet, there is no cure or effective treatment. The East Surrey Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association provides care and support to around sixty people living with MND throughout the East Surrey area, as well as helping to fund vital research into the disease itself.
