On 3 November 2016, Your Healthcare’s Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team (CNRT) was awarded an innovation grant to provide a neurological exercise programme based in a community leisure centre. 

The grant will enable a member of CNRT's physiotherapy service to work alongside a Get Active Gym Instructor and provide a 12 week (twice a week) exercise programme for eight people with neurological conditions in a gym setting. The programme will also include educational sessions promoting the benefits of exercising whilst giving people the opportunity to discuss relevant issues that matter to them.

Darren Beales, Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team Lead, said "I am delighted to accept this innovation grant award for the CNRT service. This grant will allow us to help certain individuals with neurological conditions to exercise together at Tolworth Leisure Centre. Many people we work with often feel isolated and unconfident in local gym settings.

“Our neuro exercise class at Tolworth Hospital has already shown the benefits of exercising in a group and we now need to support those who can be transitioned into the community. 

“Our aim is that these individuals will continue to exercise in a local setting and we will work collaboratively with Public Health Kingston to provide other future joint initiatives if possible.”
